About the artwork

The blueprint is based on two cultural layers: Hoffmann's Romantic world, in particular the hero of "The Sandman", and the notion of "the sands of time", which is usually associated with the unstoppable passage of time, running out like sand in an hourglass. The two motifs meet in the golden-sand colour palette of the movement's components, which suggested the title of the artwork to the artist.

On the blueprint, the artist draws a bridge, a component of the calibre, out of the depths of the movement and makes it an independent image. Its silhouette, with a broad upper part, a narrow "waist" and a pointed base, reads as a reference to an hourglass. Fine guidelines and circular arcs preserve the construction framework on which the geometry of the component is built. Ochre tones of watercolour convey the golden texture of the metal. Soft transitions create a sense of volume and a matte surface, while a thin dark outline defines the edges. The screws are worked in silvery grey, and the ruby, the only accent in the work, becomes the semantic centre of the composition.
Universum ‘Horological Graphic Art’
Time is not merely a measure. It is a philosophical dimension, an inexhaustible source of inspiration, and the central subject of my art universe.
