About the exhibit
For his artworks, Konstantin Chaykin often draws inspiration from the Mexican cultural code. The mythology, history and visual language of this country have long attracted the master, largely due to their connection with the theme of time. The Aztecs created one of the most complex calendar systems in human history, and their gods embodied natural Universums and the movement of celestial bodies. In the ‘Aztec’ blueprint, Konstantin Chaykin immerses himself in the mythological and sculptural heritage of Mexico.
The source of inspiration for the drawing was Aztec totems, monumental stone images where this ancient civilisation embodied its deities. Konstantin Chaykin translates their plasticity and geometry into the Clock Archetype: by cross-touching, the master creates a living image from mechanical parts. With the help of this technique, the artist manages to convey the same energy that was in ancient reliefs. In the totem, Chaykin seeks a character for the future Wristmon.
