About the artwork

The blueprint "Pocket Falcon" continues the line of Konstantin Chaykin's Eastern Collection, where the artist endows the watch movement with animalistic features. This time the artist gives the elements of the watch the appearance of a bird of prey and makes its gaze the centre of the image. That gaze rests on a detail that belongs both to the falcon and to the movement: the iris of the eye reproduces the design of a watch indicator. As a result, the gaze becomes part of the dial, and with it the Horological Archetype acquires the predatory nature and focus characteristic of the falcon.

The artwork is executed in mixed media in order to echo the dual nature of the bird's image. The pencil drawing sets the precise geometry and gives the form an engineered crispness. The watercolour, in turn, works up the plumage in translucent layers, softens the severity of the lines and adds liveliness to the image. These two techniques correspond to the two principles of the Horological Archetype, and it is their balance that gives it wholeness.
Universum ‘Horological Graphic Art’
Time is not merely a measure. It is a philosophical dimension, an inexhaustible source of inspiration, and the central subject of my art universe.
