About the exhibit
The work on one of the ‘White Rabbit’ Wristmon began with this blueprint. The graphic artwork led to an entire series of visual concepts, through which Chaykin gradually formed the final appearance of the watch, step by step realising the principle of the blueprint as the primary form of thought. The artwork shows the front side of the future model, although the final version of the watch will feature two dials — the only solution capable of accommodating all the planned functions, of which there are expected to be no fewer than twelve.
When starting the graphic artwork, the master conceived the model as a dedication to the Year of the Black Water Rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac. Usually, when drawing graphic artworkes for such occasions, Konstantin Chaykin seeks cross-references between Eastern and Western cultures, but the ‘White Rabbit’ became an exception: its concept was directly inspired by Lewis Carroll's ‘Alice in Wonderland.’
The dial in the blueprint is endowed with anthropomorphic features: over the pencil outline, Chaykin develops the eyes and the mouth, which simultaneously serves as a moon-phase indicator. Fine shading gives volume to the nose, which also functions as an AM/PM indicator. The hatching connects functional elements with archetypal features, embodying the principle of mechanical anatomy: each detail carries both a technical and an image‑related task.
