Obsessed With Time 2

Oil on Canvas ・ 100х100 cm

  • The brass base becomes the hero's ‘face’: the weight of his character is conveyed by the broad ‘bridge of the nose’ and the sharply defined apertures in which the wheel-‘eyes’ rotate.
  • An obsession with time is a state that cannot be concealed. The teeth of two wheels of different diameters turn into a wide, toothy smile, betraying the hero's inner tension.
  • Every detail of the artwork is constructed with particular care: the proportions and geometry of its elements are precisely calculated — down to the highlights on the polished bevels.
  • The ruby ‘pupils,’ framed by four spokes, let the viewer know that this hero never blinks, as though afraid of missing even a single second.

About the exhibit

In the painting ‘Obsessed With Time 2,’ Konstantin Chaykin captures a state when time ceases to be an object of measurement and becomes the medium in which consciousness resides. The master places at the centre of the composition a portrait of the Horological Archetype, whose gaze is fixed menacingly upon the viewer. The face, floating in a monochrome space, leaves no room for distraction: the viewer finds himself confronted by the pure act of contemplation.

The background, painted in a dense brown tone, focuses the viewer's attention on the central image — the portrait of the Time Struct. In this painting, Chaykin abandons mechanical anatomy, leaving only the gaze, allowing the master to shift toward a different optic in his work. The artist investigates consciousness and the way it perceives time, opening a new philosophy within his Universe.
Cycle: Universum "Horological Archetypes"
In Haute Horology, an idea is resolved into engineering. In artwork, it remains a living thought, captured in the moment.
