From A to Z

‘From A to Z’ continues the visual interpretation of the Horological Archetypes series and builds an image of time as an alphabet spoken without words. The central character's smile becomes a visual alphabet of time, running from the first second to the last, accepted with ease and almost joy. The path from "A" to "Z" reads as the path of perceiving time as a whole: from beginning to end, from simple to complex, from mechanics to feeling. The idea for the artwork traces back to a question posed by the artist's son, Lev, who wondered whether a watch could be made with the alphabet on it: a child's question thus received its answer in the language of Horological Art. The work preserves the ironic outlook typical of the Chaykin Method: strict engineering logic is here turned into a language of communication, and a Horological Archetype born from components of a watch movement acquires the voice of an alphabet.
