About the exhibit
On the canvas, Konstantin Chaykin creates a composite image of the Horological Archetype. In order not to tie the painting to any specific figure, the master depicts only those details that appear in almost every image within Horological Art. Through mechanical anatomy, Chaykin renders the eyes, nose and smile, assembled from components of a watch movement.
The background, painted in a light colour palette, creates a space where the composite image of the Horological Archetype stands out. Rendered almost like air, it contrasts with the density of the portrait's details, emphasising their materiality while at the same time their detachment from the familiar context of the watch mechanism. The title 'One of the One' speaks of the uniqueness of this image within the master's Universe. It is an artistic statement through which Chaykin conveys to the viewer the fundamental principles of constructing Horological Archetypes.
