Bouquet of Time

About the exhibit

In the artwork 'Bouquet of Time', Konstantin Chaykin transforms a watch movement into a blooming garden. The master takes a technical component, originally made to capture time, beyond its function and grants it an independent poetic life. A bouquet assembled from the elements of a calibre becomes a reminder of time's beauty and fragility, something the artist longs to capture and hold fast forever.

This metamorphosis on the canvas follows the principle of the mechanical geometry: Chaykin turns horological elements into flowers, giving the watch movement a floristic motif. Blue bridges rise from the earth like stems, and upon them escape wheels unfold into petals with ruby hearts. Look closely, and you can just make out, near the very ground, a star-shaped seconds wheel.
