“Goddess of Time Tempa”, the most expensive painting by Konstantin Chaykin

Konstantin Chaykin donated a number of his paintings to charity. Among them, the “Goddess of Time Tempa” certainly stands out — it is the first painting that Chaykin created in an erotomorphic style, which is seen as a logical continuation of the concept of his wristmons, the watches with anthropomorphic dials.

The ironic image of the timepiece dial in “Goddess of Time Tempa” is in an erotomorphic style that Chaykin had already conceived for his brand’s watches but had not yet realized. However, the image he created in the painting can also be interpreted differently — as a new version of the anthropomorphic dial.

On 1 September 2024, this painting was auctioned off at an auction organized by Phillips for the benefit of the Geneva School of Watchmaking (Ecole d’Horlogerie de Genève) — the bidding started at two thousand Swiss francs, and in the end the painting went for 20,000 francs. This makes the painting “The Goddess of Time Tempa” currently the most expensive work by the master to be sold at auction.
