Sketch of the “White Rabbit”
Drawing on watercolor paper
Starting bid
CHF 500
Hammer price
CHF 2 800
The long story of the “White Rabbit” transformable watch began in January 2023, yet the project’s technical realisation required several more years of painstaking work.
The model was originally conceived to mark the Year of the Black Water Rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac. Usually, in watches dedicated to such occasions, Chaykin seeks parallels between Eastern and Western cultures, but the “White Rabbit” is an exception – its concept is directly inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
This drawing marked the starting point of Konstantin Chaykin’s work on one of his most highly complicated Wristmons. It was from this sketch that the journey began, ultimately leading to a series of visual concepts through which the master shaped the final appearance of the watch.
The sketch depicts the watch’s front side, although the final creation will feature two dials – the only way to accommodate all the planned functions, expected to number at least twelve (one of them strictly confidential). The front dial is envisioned as anthropomorphic: in addition to the Joker-indication module, it will feature a classic “mouth” in the form of a moon phase indicator. Based on the drawing, the “nose” will also have a practical role, serving as an AM/PM indicator.
Only four pieces will be made, each distinguished by a unique detail – one of the four playing card suits. The sketch bears the master’s signature and the date of completion – 9 January 2023. Dimensions of the drawing: 24 × 32 cm.
