For more than 20 years, Konstantin Chaykin has been building his own artistic universe, where the components of watch movements are transformed into independent images — Horological Archetypes. Born at the intersection of engineering and painting, they follow a single system built from dividing circles, drawing axes, and joining arcs. These operations become the language that the artist has named Horological Art.
This language is spoken by every inhabitant of Konstantin Chaykin's universe, whether animalistic figures, characters from 'Alice in Wonderland,' or reimagined comic-book heroes. Each Horological Archetype featured on the postcards in the set reveals the principles of Horological Art while remaining distinct and instantly recognizable among the other characters.
The back of each postcard is designed as an actual technical drawing — the kind of a blueprint every single watch passes through at Konstantin Chaykin's manufacture before taking shape in metal.
World-renowned for his engineering mastery, Konstantin Chaykin holds more than 100 patents for horological inventions, including the world's thinnest mechanical wristwatch, at 1.65 mm thick, sold at Phillips for $655,000. His artworks are likewise recognized at international auctions: the works 'Thinking of the Time’s Birth', 'A Mad Horological Party', and 'Dormouse' sold at Phillips, Ineichen, and the Encore charity auction for record-breaking price.
Connecting Haute Horlogerie and artworks, the postcards introduce viewers to the main Horological Archetypes of Konstantin Chaykin's universe.
