Author’s giclée Dormouse

The study Dormouse (fiberboard, acrylic, 30 × 40 cm, 2025) depicts one of the central characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The archetype also appears in Konstantin Chaykin’s artwork A Mad Horological Party.

Traditionally associated with sleep, the Dormouse is shown here in a state of quiet tension. In Chaykin’s interpretation, the character resembles a mechanical toy: beneath the calm exterior, an intricate system of gears and screws continues to operate. With her eyes closed, the Dormouse appears at rest, yet her internal mechanism remains active, suggesting movement and time beneath stillness.

This study formed an essential step toward A Mad Horological Party, Chaykin’s large-scale allegorical self-portrait, where the artist portrays himself working on the White Rabbit timepiece, surrounded by characters from the seventh chapter of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland - a chapter deeply concerned with the paradoxes of time. The painting was sold at Ineichen auction in December for a record $113,400.

The giclée print is produced using high-precision digital printing with faithful color reproduction on 350 g/m² German archival paper. The edition is limited and numbered, ensuring durability and collectible value.
