The Hour Will Come

On the canvas is an autonomous watch module: a brass mainplate, steel screws, and a pyramidal base locked into a rigid construction. As in other works by Chaykin, the painting turns a technical assembly into an animated image, continuing his series of anthropomorphic modules in which mechanics possess their own character and mood. The exposed gear with a ruby center serves as the Wristmon's iconic “eye,” focusing the gaze on the flow of time. “The Hour Will Come” is a metaphor for the implacable turning of the wheel of fate, when a spear‑like lever descends and the Mechanical Warden reminds us that his moment is drawing near.
