Sketch of the “Zebra” watch
- Watercolor paper
- Pencil
- 24×32 cm
- 2022
On 9 February 2024, Konstantin Chaykin announced the release of a new unique Wristmon – the “Zebra.”
The debut of this model also marked the launch of the manufacture’s calibre – the first automatic movement with a micro-rotor to be developed and produced in Russia. This solution was intended not only to reduce the thickness of the watch, but also to underline its exclusivity, as it was created to a private commission and produced as a one-off piece.
The pencil sketch reveals the key design elements of the “Zebra,” characteristic of Chaykin’s animal Wristmons: every detail of the anthropomorphic muzzle has a functional purpose. The Joker-style hours and minutes are divided between large eye-shaped indicators, while the nostrils are used for the large day of the week indicator, with the first letters of each day written in Cyrillic. This complication first appeared in the Wristmon “Minotaur.”
One feature not immediately apparent from the drawing is an entirely new indicator, never before seen in the Wristmons collection: when the crown is pulled out, the background of the Zebra’s smile changes from white to red. The sketch bears the master’s signature and the date of completion – 8 September 2022. Dimensions of the drawing: 24 × 32 cm.
