Dormouse
- Fiberboard
- Acrylic
- 30x40 cm
This etude for the "Mad Tea-Party" series reimagines the Dormouse from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," transforming famous character into a metaphor for both slumber and mechanics.
The artist conflates the organic with the artificial: round form resembles the case of a clock, within which a complex mechanism of gears and screws resides. With closed eyes, the Dormouse appears to continue dozing, yet its internal machinery remains ceaseless, operating in defiance of repose. Vivid accents and stylized shapes conjure a sense of surreal theatre, where fairytale characters acquire newfound, ironic resonances. "Dormouse" becomes more than a mere illustration of a well-known scene; it is a meditation on time, the unconscious, and the delicate liminality between reality and fantasy.
