Sketch of the “Magnum Opus Mars Traveller Watch” (front side)
- Watercolor paper
- Watercolor, pencil
- 24×32 cm
- 2020
This artistically executed sketch depicts the front side of the Magnum Opus Mars Traveller watch – envisioned by Konstantin Chaykin as the pinnacle of his “Mars Time”
program, dedicated to developing new space- and Mars-related complications for mechanical timepieces. For the Magnum Opus Mars Traveller, Chaykin set out to incorporate the maximum possible number of complications.
The drawing resembles a unique horological puzzle: which functions did the master intend for each of the subdials on this side of the watch? Some are easily recognisable – an Earth dial with time display, perpetual calendar and tourbillon; a Mars dial with Martian time display, Martian perpetual calendar and Martian tourbillon (all inventions patented by Chaykin); as well as several other complications. Dimensions of the drawing: 24 × 32 cm.
